Your Cub Scout Uniform

Just like the adults that are part of the Fire Department, Police Department and the military, Cub Scouts also wear a uniform. As a Cub Scout, you belong to a special group of people, you give service to your community, and you have made a promise to do your best to be one of the "good guys." Wearing your uniform is a way of saying these things to everyone who sees you.  Listed below you will find some information about your uniform.

At the bottom of the page, Pack 188 has links to download PDF files that contain patch placement
and uniform pricing if you would like to purchase a new uniform for your Tiger,
Wolf, Bear, Webelos Scout and volunteer Leaders (both male and female) from Patriots Path Council or Ramsey's in Ledgewood.

Parts of the Cub Scout Uniform

The parts that make up your Cub Scout uniform are:
  1.  The Official Cub Scout shirt, with long or short sleeves
  2.  Cub Scout shorts or trousers (Pack 188 does allow blue dress pants instead of the trousers)
  3.  A cap that shows your rank in Cub Scouting—orange for Tiger Cub, yellow for Wolf Cub Scout, blue for Bear Cub Scout, and plaid for Webelos Scout
  4.  A neckerchief that matches the color of your cap
  5.  A blue belt with a brass buckle
  6.  Official blue socks with orange or gold tops (orange tops for Tiger Cubs; gold or yellow tops for all other ranks) Pack 188 does not require the purchase of these socks

Because Webelos Scouts are close to becoming Boy Scouts, some Webelos dens choose to wear the tan and olive uniform similar to the one that Boy Scouts wear (tan shirt, olive shorts/slacks, olive socks).

Uniform Exchange

Cub Scout Pack 188 offers a Uniform exchange program that is open to all Scout families that become part of Cub Scout Pack 188. Cub Scouts that have moved up in rank (Tiger to Wolf, Wolf to Bear, Bear to Webelos, Webelos to Boy Scout) will donate their Scout uniforms to Pack 188. Pack 188 then cleans and repairs these uniforms, pants, hats, neckerchefs and slides and brings them to each Pack Meeting to allow Cub Scouts to sign these uniforms out. When your Cub Scout outgows or moves up in rank, you are asked to turn them back in again to allow another Scout to use them. This saves the Scout family money as they do not have to go out and purchase a new uniform.

Badges, Patches, Pins, and Medals

Besides showing that you are a member of the Cub Scouts, your uniform gives you a place to display your personal achievements and those of your den and pack. Badges of rank, award emblems, special recognitions, and the medals you win at Cub Scout activities are all sewn or pinned onto your uniform.

Wearing the Uniform

Unless your Den Leader says otherwise, you should wear your Cub Scout uniform to all activities—not only Den and Pack meetings, but every activity in which you take part with other Cub Scouts.
