Bobcat Badge

As of June 1, 2006 all boys that join Cub Scouts must earn the Bobcat badge before any other Cub Scout rank.  He can do this by completing 8 requirements with his adult partner.  So let's go down the Bobcat trail together with your Cub Scout!

Once your Cub Scout has learned all these requirements, give him the Bobcat Quiz to make sure he understands and was paying attention. The Bobcat Quiz was created by one of the Leaders in Cub Scout Pack 188, and in the spirit of Scouting decided to share it with other Leaders.

1. Learn and say the Cub Scout Promise and complete the Honesty Character Connection.

The Cub Scout Promise

I,..(state your name)...,
promise to do my best,
To do my duty to God, and my country,
To help other people, and
To obey the Law of the Pack.

Honesty Character Connection

a. - Know: Discuss these questions with your family: What is a promise? What does it mean to "Keep your word"? What does honesty mean? What does it mean to "do your best"?

b. - Commit: Discuss these questions with your family. Why is a promise important? Why is it important for people to trust you when you give your word? When might it be difficult to keep your word? List examples.

c. - Practice: Discuss with your family members why it is important to be trustworthy and honest and how you can do your best to be honest when you are doing activities in Cub Scouting.

2. Say the Law of the Pack. Tell what it means.

The Law of the Pack
The Cub Scout follow Akela.
The Cub Scout helps the pack go.
The pack helps the Cub Scout grow.
The Cub Scout gives goodwill.

3. Tell what Webelos means.

    Webelos (say WE-buh-lows) has a special meaning that Cub Scouts know. It is We'll Be Loyal Scouts

4. Show the Cub Scout sign. Tell what it means.

5. Show the Cub Scout handshake. Tell what it means.

6. Say the Cub Scout motto. A motto is a guiding principle.

DO YOUR BEST is the Cub Scout motto.

7. Give the Cub Scout salute. Tell what it means.

8. With your parent or guardian, complete the exercises in the booklet - "How to Protect Your Children from Child Abuse".

Once your Cub Scout has completed these 8 Bobcat tracks your son's Den Leader can order the Bobcat badge to be worn on your uniform. Please check the Scout Uniform page for the proper placement of the Bobcat badge on the offical Scout shirt.

The above information is basic information your that ALL CUB SCOUTS must learn, which is why every boy who joins Cub Scouts MUST earn the Bobcat badge as their first badge of rank.
